EURO-POLIS 2050: edition 2011
A competition of ideas for engineering students leads to clever concepts
Euro-Polis 2050 is a contest, organised by ORI, the Organisation of Consultancy and Engineering firms. The contest encourages students in engineering sciences to conceptualize, realize and present a concept in only 24 hours, whilst thinking about innovation and creativity as well.
The second edition was held in november 2011. The theme of the contest was Atlantis. Seventeen teams got 24 hours to develop a project for a future city under water.
The students started with a brainstorm session about the underwater city. We used Flanders DC’s GPS Brainstormkit to stimulate out-of-the-box thinking. Lots of creative and innovative ideas emerged. Afterwards, with a ticking clock in the background, the teams worked on their project of ‘life in an underwater city ’.
The final results were fantastic, but unfortunately there were only three prizes to be awarded. The Prize of the Jury went to the team Chez Cinq Chefs of KaHo Sint-Lieven, Ghent. Their project used the flow of water in the Gulf Stream to generate energy and make the Atlantis Project habitable. ISIB2 of ISIB Brussels won the Prize of the Public. They impressed with the concept ‘Blue Energy for a Green City’. The coaches awarded the social project of the UCL students ‘Les Rikuikuis’ with the ‘Out-of-the-box’-Prize. You can admire all the posters on the website.
Once again, Euro-Polis 2050 proved to be a great success. We’re already looking forward to 2012.
